Black History was celebrated in Corpus Christi, TX on Friday, February 26, 2016. The 40^th Black History Scholarship Banquet was hosted by the Black History Cultural Committee, was held at the Holiday Inn Airport. The master of ceremony was Rev Bryant Gray.

The beautiful program included Presenting of the Colors by Foy H Moody High School Color Guards, entertainment from children mimes, praise dancing, as well as the songbird Seraphia Lott leading the ‘Negro National Anthem’ (Lift Every Voice and Sing)  and ‘Summertime’ occapella.

The 2015-2016 Scholarship recipients included DeQuajia Caveness who is majoring in Nursing, and Armani Brooks who is majoring in Communications.  An Appointee from Mayor Nelda Martinez’s office presented a Proclamation to the BHCC, and furthermore, presented the Key Note Speaker Dr. Linda Amerson the ‘Key To The City’ for her outstanding work with alopecia, helping kids with alopecia and hosting her philanthropy ‘Cruise With a Purpose’ to present her educational scholarship(s).

After James Amerson, of Houston, comically did the speakers introduction, the historical journey of the Theme: ‘Hallowed Grounds: Sites of African American Memories’ was enthusiastically shared with 175 attendees by the Key Note Speaker Dr. Linda Amerson, a native of Corpus Christi, but now resides in Arlington, TX.  Family members and friends were present to support Dr. Amerson and the Banquet.

Everyone enjoyed the delicious meal. Dr. Amerson had her exclusive products available for purchase, and gave each attendee a leather keychain as a token of part of her brand,  then announced her educational scholarship opportunity for 2016 for kids ages 10-18 affected with alopecia.
